Beverly Houston Banister
Beverly Houston Banister has been makin!g Southeast Atlanta a better place to live for over 20 years by serving with the East Lake Family YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta to promote the mental, physical, and spiritual well-being of the community. She is a long standing member of the Board of Directors where she serves as co-chair and chair of the Board Orientation Committee. She is an active financial supporter and participant in the annual Partner with Youth Campaign, where contributions help build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.
Beverly is currently serving as the Acting Deputy Regional Administrator for the Southeast Region of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. In this senior executive position she provides tremendous leadership to the Region’s 1,034 employees whose mission is to protect public health and the environment across eight southeastern states. She has distinguished herself throughout her 26 years of federal service by the strength she has imparted to her colleagues, developing, enabling, and leading people to achieve the EPA mission. She has both regional and national experience in EPA programs including extensive experience in water, air, and hazardous and solid waste.
As a result of Beverly’s demonstrated leadership, management and community building skills, she has been widely recognized with many awards including: Federal Executive Board EPA All Star Award, the Donald J. Guinyard Pioneer Career Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership and Mentoring, the prestigious Lee M. Thomas Excellence in Management Award, the Al J. Smith Service Award, Southeast YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award, and the National Poster as one of the eight “outstanding women of science” in EPA. Boards that Beverly has served on are: Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership (IGEL) and Florida A&M University (FAMU) Advisory Board.
In addition, to these career achievements and honors, Beverly has provided leadership to numerous organizations within and outside EPA. Beverly is an active member of the Cross of Grace Church in Tucker, Georgia, where she serves as the Treasurer and a member of the Finance Committee. She is very involved with Adopt a Family projects as well as other service projects within the metro Atlanta area.
Beverly finds joy in volunteering in her community. She often organizes neighborhood clean up, front entrance beautification projects, and serves on the Neighborhood Watch Program.
Beverly was born in Woodland, Alabama, and is the oldest child of John and Jeanette Houston. She is a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
